This year I took part in 36 Days of Type 2017 on Instagram. Each day between 21st February and 28th March I joined thousands of other designers, artists and illustrators in posting a daily letter/number to my Instagram feed. The 36 days are devoted to 26 for each letter of the alphabet and 10 for the numbers 0-9.
36 Days of Type was started by two Spanish designers, Nina Sans and Rafa Goicoechea, who in 2013 started to explore and stretch the limits of their creativity by producing and sharing new work every day on social media. Over the years this has grown into an annual interactive participatory celebration of type and creativity.
It was a real challenge posting everyday for more than a month but I got a lot out of the experience. The discipline of posting something new on a daily basis meant that I just had to get ideas out there, irrespective of their quality. Some of them were particularly pleasing and others more forgettable, but I feel like my interest and respect for typography was amplified and I’m now looking forward to creating my first typeface.
My #36daysoftype_04 letters, from A-Z
I’ve decided to post my letters first and post my numbers separately. So here are my efforts, from A-Z. I hope you like them.
